Jonathan Paul Fiore / il Fioroso
I have been drawing since I could hold anything in my hands. From vandalizing my mother’s walls as a child and selling artwork in elementary school, I was enchanted with capturing a life in the arts.
As a teenager, I was obsessed with street art because it called for unrestrained creative expression. My talent for designing characters and letters got me recruited into an infamous graffiti crew around Boston, Massachusetts in the late 90's.
Over the early 2000’s, I established the Chalice Art Collective out of Loft 954 in Fort Lauderdale’s Fat Village art district. My associates and I were a part of bringing a new wave of activity into the neighborhood’s 4th Saturday art walks that alternated with Miami’s Wynwood Art District’s 2nd Saturday art walks.
During that time, I executed visual merchandising for Guess Jeans’ flagship locations in South Beach, Miami on Lincoln Road and Collins Avenue. I also provided men’s wardrobing for Ralph Lauren’s celebrity clientele at the prestigious Bal Harbour Shops.
My artwork and professional experience later got me hired as a Creative Branding Director at Capstone Group, a small advertising, branding, marketing and promotional firm in North Miami Beach, Florida.
From there, I moved on as a Creative Trainer with Apple Inc. Time at Apple was invaluable and I was fortunate to encounter Steve Jobs before he passed. Although I was a rising star in the company and being groomed here for a place in the design team at headquarters in Cupertino, my desire for limitless creative expression pushed me to move on when I met a tattoo shop owner that offered to take me under wing, in 2008. The opportunity to draw everyday creating wildly various designs set me on fire. I was completely captivated.
I have been tattooing mostly since then, working with premier artists and studios - Nick Baxter of Art Realm in Austin, Carl Grace at Boston Tattoo Company, Alicia Cardenas of Sol Tribe in Denver, Pineapple of Shaman Modifications in Austin.
In 2016, Ink Master approached me to try out for a season with them but after completing two rounds of interviews I asked them to remove me from consideration. The opportunity was flattering but not exactly in line with my desires or interests.
My passion is in creating artwork. I love designing for clients and I love creating freely from my intuition. Directing creative endeavors for myself and others is the only way for me.
Amidst a lifetime of creative work and 15 years of professional tattooing, I am now establishing my own design firm, Fioroso Illustrated.
Statement
I am a multidisciplinary visual artist. My principal mediums are graphite, ink, acrylic, gouache, decoupage, digital illustration, graphic design, tattooing and screen printing.
Sacred geometry holds the strongest influence on my approach to composition. Leonardo da Vinci, Mark Rothko, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Frida Kahlo, John Singer Sargent, Alphonse Mucha and Frank Frazetta are some of the artists that have inspired me most.
The goal of my work is always to indulge in the creative process, harmonizing varying proportions of concept and intuition.
